DATA for this webpage received thru (ROTI) Rotarians On The Internet ..... Bob Collins, PDG, 1998-99, PHF(M), PHB, District 6080, Missouri, USA While attending District Governor training in Anaheim in 1998 I was given one of the bumper stickers being discussed. I thought it was a marvelous idea, not for fund raising so much as for awareness of what 1.2 million Rotarians around the world are dedicated to accomplishing - the eradication of Polio. I came home and ordered 1000 of the bumper stickers to be given away. I always took them with me when I made my club visits and had them available at our District Foundation Seminar and District Conference. What I particularly like about the darn inanimate things is their ability to generate conversation. I have one on my pickup truck and it is amazing how many times I have been asked about it. Sure makes for a nice opportunity to talk about our $400,000,000 Polio Plus Campaign, or the $9,000 our district donated to the NID in Cameroon. It is also a great instrument to discover whether or not the individual with whom I have been engaged with in this conversation might be a good Rotary recruit! .... I don't believe negativity is a really serious problem in Rotary. What I do believe is a very serious problem in Rotary is apathy. ... I've heard it said many, many times: there are Rotarians and then there are those who attend Rotary meetings! It's that last group that greatly concerns me! |
